PAINTING RESTORATION
We provide expertise in all types of paintings
on various supports, including easel paintings
on canvas, paper, panel, plaster, metals, as well
as wall paintings and murals. Treatments can include
stabilization, surface cleaning, the removal of
discolored varnish, reversing previous restorations,
lining, paint consolidation and conditioning,
the repair of tears and punctures, cradling paintings
on panels, filling paint losses, and expert retouching.
STONE RESTORATION
We offer the repair and restoration of small
works of art as well as large table tops, mantles,
colums, sculptures, etc. We provide fabriction
of lost areas, stabilization of broken areas,
expert color matching on fills, as well as the
creation of custom designed stone pieces.
PAPER AND BOOK RESTORATION
We provide conservation services for all varieties
of media. We can handle small format flat paper,
and specialize in the treatment and stabilization
of antique documents, prints, photographs and
maps. As with all the departments, the paper
lab employs a minimal approach to treatment,
using only reversible materials and techniques.
Treatments include dry cleaning, water washing,
stain reduction & removal, tear repairs,
loss restoration, liquid paper pulp treatments,
lining, adhesive removal, aqueous and non-aqueous
de-acidification, UV bleaching, humidification,
flattening, and in-painting.
GILDING AND RESTORATION OF GILDED OBJECTS
Whether on frames, furniture, porcelain or objects
we provide a full range of techniques using
a variety of materials. We specialize in the
ancient practice of water gilding, and use real
gold leaf, silver leaf, or whatever material
is appropriate to the piece. Finishes are toned,
aged or distressed to match the original object,
or to the customer's specifications.
FURNITURE RESTORATION
We offer repair, stabilization, and reconstruction,
touch up of scratches, removal of stains, replacing
losses. Additionally we can often fabricate
pieces to your specifications.
FRAME RESTORATION
We encourage clients to keep and restore their
original or antique frames whenever possible.
Historically when a frame was commissioned for
an individual painting, its cost was often equal
to or more than the painting itself. Over time,
most of these antique frames were damaged by
amateur repairs and painting over the gold leaf,
stressful environmental conditions, poor storage
and rough handling. We are highly skilled in
all aspects of framing and frame restoration.
We provide cleaning, paint removal, structural
and ornament repair, re-carving, casting, gilding
and refinishing for any type of frame, whether
it's plaster, gesso, compo or carved wood.
PORCELAIN AND CERAMIC RESTORATION
We offer repair and restoration on all varieties
of porcelain and ceramics, such as Majolica,
Old Paris Porcelain, American Art pottery, &
earthenware. Services include cleaning, bonding,
retouch, gilding, and fabrication of missing
areas. We also recognize that not all pieces
warrant extensive restoration, therefore we
offer the client the options of "repair
only", "partial restoration"
or "full restoration".
