C.M. MANLY
(1855 – 1924)
Charles
MacDonald Manly was born in Surrey, England
in 1855 and emigrated to Toronto in 1876. This
painter and graphic artist taught at the ONTARIO
COLLEGE OF ART in Toronto. His work is represented
in the NATIONAL GALLERY OF CANADA.
Masterful artist whose works are notable in
the archives of the Art Gallery of Ontario and
the National Gallery of Canada.
His untitled watercolour is resplendent with
soft muted hues of colours reminiscent of his
homeland. Elizabeth Barrett Browning could have
written her famous poem “How Do I Love
Thee” in this very setting.
