C.M. MANLY

(1855 – 1924)

Charles MacDonald Manly was born in Surrey, England in 1855 and emigrated to Toronto in 1876. This painter and graphic artist taught at the ONTARIO COLLEGE OF ART in Toronto. His work is represented in the NATIONAL GALLERY OF CANADA.
Masterful artist whose works are notable in the archives of the Art Gallery of Ontario and the National Gallery of Canada.

His untitled watercolour is resplendent with soft muted hues of colours reminiscent of his homeland. Elizabeth Barrett Browning could have written her famous poem “How Do I Love Thee” in this very setting.
